2 Fires in 5 Hours for HTFD
November 7, 2010
Station 21 Equipment:
Attack 21
Engine 21 (3)
Tanker 21
Saturday's calls began with a debris removal on Route 30 eastbound at 1649.  The Engine responded and was available in less than a hour.

The second call was for a residential structure fire, reported at 6240 Hauser School Road at 1824.  The caller reported a chimney fire that had spread to the roof of the structure.  Engine 41 arrived pulling the first two handlines and knocking the bulk of the fire.  Engine 21 arrived to pull a backup line while Tanker 21 provided a water supply for Engine 41.  Crews began overhaul of the ceiling immediately after the knock, pulling the foam and cotton insulation from the rafters.  Interion crews utilized 24' extension ladders and long pike poles to reach the high ceilings of the structure.  Thank you to all of the mutual aid companies assisting with the extensive overhaul.  The box was placed available at 2100.

As most members had made their way home after the first fire, the 41-01 box was struck at 2316 for a structure fire high risk, reported at 116 Hellam Street to be an apartment building on fire.  Engine 21 went enroute with a full crew and was given the assignment of assisting the Engine Company from 41 with the attack.  Engine 41 secured their own water source and arrived Side A pulling handlines for the attack.  Rescue 41-1 secured a secondary water supply and took Side C of the structure pulling additional attack lines.  Due to the layout of the building, the upper floors could only be accessed from Side C.  41 Crews attacked the fire from an intermediate roof quickly backed up by the Engine 21 crew.  The fire was held to the building of origin with some damage to the adjoining structure.  Crews stayed on scene to assist the PSP Fire Marshal with lighting during their investigation.  The box was placed available at 0458.

The fourth call was dispatched at 0601 to Codorus Furnace Road in the area of River Farm Road for a vehicle accident down an embankment.  Rescue 41-2 depowered the vehicle while Chief 21 and Attack 21 controlled the traffic.  The box was available at 0713.
