Lancaster County units were dispatched to Route 30 eastbound at the Columbia exit
for a vehicle accident overturned. LCWC updated the location to 30 EB just
before the bridge on the York County side. York County 911 dispatched
the HTFD units for the 21-15 box. Responding Lancaster units arrived on scene reporting one SUV towing a camper trailer with people trapped. York County 911 upgraded the box to include the entrapment assignment. The Rescues from 41 arrived and worked with the Lancaster units to stabilize the vehicle. Three children were able to be removed from the vehicle without any tools, while the two front seat passengers were trapped. The front half of the roof was peeled to gain access to the two patients. The first patient was extricated in 20 minutes with the second removed just minutes later. All five patients were transported to a local trauma center. Great job to all York and Lancaster units cooperating to provide excellent rescue services to our residents! Also, a special thanks to all of our responding fire police from neighboring departments assisting with the detoured traffic. This is the third SUV towing a camper trailer that has overturned on Route 30 in just over two years. All three of these accidents injured the occupants of the vehicle with two of these cases resulting in entrapment. Please ensure that the towing vehicle is rated to tow the size trailer that is being hauled. Also, be aware of large passing vehicles that may blow the trailer sideways. |
